Brad Pitt Speaks Out on NY's Marriage Equality Law

Brad Pitt wants everyone to have the opportunity to get married! The actor, who once said that he and love Angelina Jolie wouldn't tie the knot until all Americans had the same right, is thrilled about New York's new marriage equality law. Still, he thinks this major step by the Big Apple should just be the beginning.

"It is encouraging that New York has joined the movement to grant equal marriage rights to its citizens. But it is each American's Constitutional right to marry the person they love, no matter what state they inhabit," Pitt, 47, told People.com.

Pitt is just one of the many celebrities in support of the legalizing of gay marriage. And while he thinks New York's recent vote is a step in the right direction, the actor insists there is much more work to do.

"No state should decide who can marry and who cannot," Pitt insists. "Thanks to the tireless work of so many, someday soon this discrimination will end and every American will be able to enjoy their equal right to marriage."

While Pitt and Jolie had originally said they would wait to marry until equal rights were had by all, their plans might be taking a detour. In a recent interview, Pitt revealed that the couple's six children may be the ultimate factor that pushes them down the aisle.

 

"The kids ask about marriage. It's meaning more and more to them," he said. "So it's something we've got to look at."
